SHOW NOTES:

This week’s episode begins with Josie and Emma chatting about The Everygirl’s Best of Summer event with La Crema, including the wine, activities, and conversation. Emma shares her experience getting a tarot card reading from the reader at the event and the various things that the reader revealed to her. Josie reminisces on a previous tarot card reading she got at a different event with The Everygirl. Josie and Emma have a conversation about how truthful they think tarot card readings are before diving into this week’s Ask The Everygirl. The listener asks: What are your hobbies, and what do you do in your free time? Josie goes off about how she thinks the term “free time” is a misnomer, and Emma talks about how she thinks hobbies are something we have to be actively bad at in order to do them correctly. Emma shares how pickleball and reading are her two favorite hobbies, but she aspires to be much better at logging off and simply doing things for the fun of it. Josie talks about her hobby of dancing, and how important it is to channel your inner child in whatever hobbies you pick up. Josie and Emma also talk about how there are two different kinds of hobbies: the kind where you’re just doing something for the fun of it, and the kind where you end up with a product that you’re excited about. They conclude that the “hobby” comes from within. The interview with comedian Kate Willett begins with Kate sharing how she first became interested in doing stand-up, and how she managed to grind for a decade doing nightly shows before finally getting her big break. Then, Josie and Kate dive into Kate’s special, Loopholes. Josie asks Kate why she chose to cover topics like sex and feminism in the special, and Kate shares how she felt compelled to talk about more serious topics through her art. Josie asks if Kate is ever afraid of cancel culture. Kate explains that although cancel culture is intimidating, she doesn’t fear it because she’s always making jokes about things that she genuinely cares about. Josie and Kate then have a conversation about what it really means to piss people off online with your opinions. The conversation then turns to sex and dating. Kate shares how at the beginning of her career, she was more concerned with being considered attractive and marketing herself to men in the industry before she shifted her perspective. She talks about how she didn’t date in her late twenties, why she thinks you should never take any dating situation seriously until at least the fifth date, and how to navigate a truly terrible dating landscape. Josie says that she thinks that women are often shamed for wanting a long-term, committed relationship, and how she thinks that that shame is unfair when compared to the pressure to find a fulfilling career. Kate agrees, and talks about how she would advise anyone in the dating pool to stick with what they really want and truly know themselves. Then, Kate and Josie play a fun game of never-have-I-ever, in which Kate talks about her thoughts on threesomes, faking orgasms, and more. The episode closes with rapid-fire questions for Kate.
