SHOW NOTES:
The Everygirl Podcast is getting extra deep this week with an inspirational conversation with the incredible writer, Jamie Varon. Jamie and Josie sit down to chat about Jamie’s hard-won optimism and her healing journey; the episode begins with Jamie explaining the insecurities she felt when she was young and the pessimistic outlook she used to have on life. Jamie explains that when she turned 30, she went on a journey of self-discovery in order to learn how to truly feel good about herself without having to constantly hustle or put herself down. She explains how incorporating a recognition of both the systemic and individual factors that were causing her to have low self-esteem in her writing and worldview completely changed her life. Josie asks Jamie to explain what it was specifically about turning 30 that caused her to have such a moment of awareness. Jamie discusses the expectations that are placed on women to accomplish certain things by the age of 30, and how she realized that those expectations were total B.S. when she actually reached that age. The two discuss how we are always striving for happiness and focusing on the appearance of our lives rather than seeking radical contentment in our everyday. Josie asks Jamie to give the audience some advice about moving on to the next phase of their lives after coming to a realization that they might not be living their truth. Jamie purports the benefits of journaling, noting that it is very difficult to communicate with yourself and understand your own thoughts without journaling. The conversation then turns to how women feel exceptional pressure to make their lives appear a certain way to others, even down to the appearance of our personal inner journeys. Jamie teaches the audience the value of authenticity in a digital world that pressures women to hide their realities. Josie and Jamie also discuss the phenomenon of women sacrificing from an empty cup, when in reality it might be more important to serve ourselves first in order to achieve genuine self acceptance. The episode takes another pivot to manifestation. Jamie runs through some of the problems with the way we talk about manifestation today, including our ignorance of the step of recognizing our own limiting beliefs. Josie also asks Jamie to reveal some of the details of her own manifestation practice. The conversation closes with a discussion of how we can shift our focus in order to enjoy our lives more, why that is so important, and some rapid-fire questions for Jamie.
