SHOW NOTES:

This week’s episode of The Everygirl Podcast kicks off with a lively Ask The Everygirl segment: Josie and Emma chat about the viral “O-Method” of manifestation and whether or not they buy it, and then pivot to discussing impostor syndrome in the workplace. Josie provides a helpful mindset shift about adjusting to your environment according to where you are truly ready to be in your career. This provides a wonderful segue into the interview with executive coach Liz Tran. Liz is the author of The Karma of Success, so Josie kicks off the interview by asking her how she defines success and how she has found success in her own life. Liz debunks some of the common misconceptions about the Buddhist concept of karma, and explains how she has been able to apply this principle to her own career and subsequently to her career coaching. Josie asks Liz to explain some of the limiting beliefs that she often sees her clients working through with their careers. Liz explains the Yerkes-Dodson law, which states that there is an optimal stress level for our executive functioning and achievement, and then there is a point at which the stress becomes too much for us. She discusses the fact that most people believe that being harder on themselves will result in greater achievements in their careers, when the reality is in fact the opposite. She provides advice for high-achieving people who often find themselves being too hard on themselves in their careers, especially when it comes to recognizing their own accomplishments. Then, the conversation pivots to confidence: Liz explains why confidence is something that can go up and down, like a bank account, but as long as you are making “deposits” in that account, you will reach higher and higher levels of personal confidence. Josie asks Liz to discuss her concept of the inner genius: Liz unpacks the meaning of the term, and the three action steps that everyone needs to take in order to tap into their own inner genius and personal intuition. Josie and Liz have a conversation about genuine self-trust and how that manifests, both in our careers and otherwise. Finally, the two bounce back and forth on the subject of money, questioning how one can evolve into an abundance mindset with finances and bounce back from a lack of financial self-confidence. The episode closes with several rapid-fire questions for Liz.
