SHOW NOTES:

For this week’s Ask The Everygirl, Emma and Josie address a listener question about feeling like they need to be extra productive, social, and wellness-oriented in the summertime. Emma explains how she deals with “sunshine guilt” as someone who struggles with Seasonal Affective Disorder, and the tactics she has in place for enjoying extra time in the sun without pushing herself too hard. Josie explains why rest isn’t something that needs to be earned, and that we should never give ourselves negative motivation to do things in the summer. They dive into a conversation about betterment burnout and the constant challenge of handling toxic productivity culture. The interview with Victoria Alario of For The Girls begins with Josie asking Victoria how she got her natural confidence. Victoria explains that she’s always been loud and outspoken and that she’s never allowed herself to get swept up in insecurity. She talks about how her mindset has allowed her to achieve things and live a life she adores. Then, the conversation pivots to romance and relationships, which is the subject of Victoria’s podcast. Victoria shares how she spent ten years single in her late teens and early twenties, going on dates, working on herself, and learning how to love her life solo. Josie asks Victoria to expand on some of the biggest things she learned during the decade she spent single. Victoria talks about loneliness and the fact that being lonely in a bad relationship is worse than being lonely while being single. She discusses how powerful it was for her to start doing things entirely alone, from going out to eat to exploring her city. Her solo dates shaped her confidence and gave her the skills and tools she needed before she eventually entered a relationship. Josie then asks Victoria what some of the biggest lessons are that she has learned since entering a healthy, happy relationship. Victoria expands on the lessons she’s learned about communication in her relationship. Then, she discusses how she believes that a relationship needs both feminine and masculine energy in order to function well. Josie asks Victoria for a few tips for women who struggle to access their feminine energy when they are dating. Finally, the episode closes with some rapid-fire questions for Victoria.
