SHOW NOTES:
In this week’s intro, Emma and Josie catch up on their tomfoolery summers. Emma shares about going out to dinner with five strangers, and how she’s using the summer to branch out. For this week’s Ask The Everygirl, Josie tells the story of a friend who has been on a few dates with a guy who she knows cheated in a past relationship. Emma and Josie talk through the ins and outs of dating someone who has cheated in the past, and the different situations that are red flags versus green flags. They conclude that if the guy has come clean about his past cheating habits early on, then it’s probably a good thing, and he likely really regrets his past actions. However, if he tries to keep his past infidelity a secret, then that’s a sign to run. The interview with Lulu Ge begins with Josie asking Lulu when she first learned what it means to be healthy and started taking control of her health. Lulu shares how in her twenties, she was much more focused on climbing the corporate ladder than she was about her health. She ended up working a high-intensity job at Saks Fifth Avenue, but when she went off birth control, her period symptoms were so bad that she could hardly get her work done. Desperate for a solution, she turned to Traditional Chinese Medicine as a solution to her cramps and period symptoms. Josie and Lulu have a conversation about the stigma surrounding period pain in our culture, and how women are often not taken seriously when they are experiencing debilitating symptoms. Lulu dives into some of the details of Traditional Chinese Medicine, explaining how it differs from Western medicine and why we need both in order to live a truly healthy, happy life. She explains the concept of yin and yang and the cold and heat that she then applies to her own cycle and the ethos behind Elix. Lulu also explains how most modern biohacking is structured around the 24-hour cycle, which is better suited for men than women. Then, Josie asks Lulu about some specific period symptoms and how to treat them using TCM. Lulu explains that you might be dealing with headaches, liver chi stagnation, or other symptoms and that all of these problems can be treated with TCM solutions. She also talks about the relationship between mental health and TCM, and how to connect t your mental well-being to your physical symptoms for true health optimization. Josie asks Lulu about the connection between TCM, hormone health, and weight loss, and Lulu discusses how the three are connected. The episode closes with some rapid-fire questions for Lulu.
