Anush Movsesian (also known as the ionic @skinsandneeds_ on Instagram) is an LA-based Cosmetic Nurse Practitioner who combines the science of medicine with the art of aesthetics. She’s deemed a go-to in the beauty industry, thanks to her expertise in botox, injectables, lasers, micro-needling, and more. In this episode, Anush is sharing all the insider tips you've always wanted to know about botox, filler, and other cosmetic procedures, plus spills insider secrets of the beauty industry (such as all the plastic surgery treatments celebrities are getting and why you can use botox for way more purposes than you think). Anush also gets real discussing social media, confidence, body dysmorphia, and why she refuses to use filters on Instagram or TikTok.

SHOW NOTES:

This week’s Ask The Everygirl segment is a little bit different: In this episode, Emma asks Josie if she has any birthday manifestation rituals, since Josie’s 28th birthday is coming up. Josie shares her techniques for writing a letter to her younger self, appreciating the current moment, and looking ahead to the future each year on her birthday. Then, the two discuss the episode ahead, and the misconceptions they had about Botox and filler before the conversation with Anush Movsesian. The interview begins with a discussion of how Anush initially got into cosmetic medicine; then, Josie asks Anush to explain what Botox and filler actually are. Anush runs through the differences between the two, as well as how they differ from plastic surgery, and explains some of the cosmetic procedures she has done in her own life. She explains why she turns away at least one or two patients every day due to the warped perception that many people have of Botox and filler, plus what makes a high-quality cosmetic medicine practitioner. Then, the conversation turns to body dysmorphia, and how many people should not get cosmetic treatments due to their own self-image issues. Anush discusses the main thing that she sees impacting women’s confidence today: social media. Josie is shocked to learn that most people do not come into Anush’s practice asking to look like celebrities; instead, they ask to look like themselves with filters over their faces. She discusses how she wishes that influencers and celebrities would be honest with their followers about whether or not they are using filters so that the beauty standards could remain in an achievable place. Anush also explains some of the skin treatments that celebrities and influencers can afford that are raising the beauty standard to impossible levels. Josie then asks Anush when she thinks is an appropriate age to start Botox and filler injections, as well as some lesser-known places where people might ask for Botox or filler in order to improve their appearance. The episode closes with some rapid-fire questions for Anush, including her own beauty rituals.
