Episode 81: Real Housewives of New York's Erin Lichy on Her Secret to "Doing It All" and How to Pack More Into Life

Erin Lichy immediately won us over as one of the six incredibly dynamic and powerful women in the new installment of The Real Housewives of New York, which launched her into Bravolebrity stardom overnight. In this episode, Josie grills Erin for all the BTS tea: how she got cast, what dynamics are like when cameras aren't around, and what she really thinks about her conflicts with the women this season. She also shares the relationship and sex tips she attributes to a 10+ year passionate, happy relationship with her husband Abe (the Babe), how they met, and what Abe struggled with most with his wife becoming a Real Housewife. Erin has also had an impressive career, getting into real estate at 19 years old, shares her #1 secret to success, and career advice she learned from her Real Housewives castmates. Plus, to wrap up the year, Josie and Emma give superlatives for all the trends, celebrities, and pop culture moments from 2023.

SHOW NOTES:

For this week’s intro segment, instead of doing an Ask The Everygirl segment, Josie and Emma do some superlatives for 2023. They discuss the most bizarre celebrity scandals of the year and whether or not they would date Timothee Chalamet. They also explain their 2023 eras in one word, and what they hope to see in 2024. The interview with Real Housewives star Erin Lichy begins with Josie asking Erin how she came to be on the show and whether she felt like she was prepared for the pressure of being a reality television star. Erin explains how she went into the role fairly blind and what it has been like to continually receive online hate. Josie and Erin discuss mindset shifts to help deal with online controversy. Josie asks Erin what she thought producers saw in her that made her a good fit for the show, and dive into a lengthier discussion of Erin’s relationship with some of the other cast members on Real Housewives of New York. Erin reveals how she and fellow Housewife Ubah Hassan revived their friendship and worked through their problems after their huge fight last season, and how their friendship emerged newly strengthened afterwards. Erin also discusses what it has been like to explain her job as a Real Housewife to her high school friends. She explains that she knows she was too harsh when she was handling the difficult situation with Jenna last season—she acknowledges that it was not editing but rather her own mistake in that situation that made it seem like she was being heartless in the face of Jenna’s genetic disorder. Josie notes that reality television provides an opportunity for stars to be more self-aware and accountable for their own actions than normal people normally have access to. Then, Josie asks Erin to dive into her relationship with her husband, Abe. Erin tells the story of how she and Abe met and fell in love, plus her tips for transitioning from being single into being in a committed relationship. She discusses how important it was to see Abe as an addition to her already full and fulfilling life, rather than as deeply intertwined with that life. She also dives into how she manages to juggle three kids, three businesses, and the rest of her life at the same time: She describes herself as a “life packer” and discusses how she never wanted to sacrifice any one aspect of her life for another. Josie and Erin have a conversation about the fallacy of “having it all” and the illusion of perfect motherhood. Erin shares some advice her dad gave her as a child, about allowing your children to come into your life rather than twisting your reality to accommodate them. Josie asks what the Real Housewives experience has been like for Erin’s husband Abe, and Erin reveals some of the moments when he has felt most upset from the show. Then, the conversation pivots to Erin’s businesses, including how she got her start in real estate and how she was inspired to make her most recent brand, Mezcalum. Josie asks Erin to pinpoint one thing that has been the secret to her success, and Erin explains the value of risk-taking. The conversation closes with some rapid-fire questions for Erin.
