Episode 24: Happy Hour: Ranking Our Favorite Holiday Movies and Signing Off For the Holidays!

For the last episode of 2022, Josie and Alaina catch up over a glass (or two!) of Pinot Noir to rank their favorite holiday movies. Josie and Alaina are also joined by Emma Ginsberg, The Everygirl's Podcast Intern, to chime in on her holiday favorites. They chat about their top movies, as well as the most underrated film, which character they would want to be, and favorite lesson from a holiday movie. We also polled you–our audience–to find out your favorite holiday movies, and how they differ from Millennials to Gen-Z. Warning: You will leave this episode with a long list of movies you'll want to binge all season long. And we want to hear from you! Let us know at @theeverygirlpodcast what your favorite holiday movies are.

SHOW NOTES:

This festive episode of The Everygirl Podcast kicks off with Josie and Alaina sharing some of their favorite things about the holiday season, plus their decorating traditions. Alaina explains why she was even more into the holidays before she had kids, and how her decorating has changed over the years. The two have a little chat about tedium of the Elf on the Shelf before diving into their favorite Christmas movie scenes. Alaina then introduces Emma, the podcast intern, to get a Gen Z perspective in the ensuing Christmas movie debate. Emma shares some of her own decorating traditions as a college student, and then Alaina discusses her favorite holiday movie of all time, The Family Stone. The three continue on to have a discussion about the merits of streaming services versus DVDs. Emma tells Josie and Alaina about her favorite holiday movie and the yearly tradition she has associated with it, and Josie sings the praises of her favorite holiday rom-com. Alaina brings up the new love-it-or-hate-it Christmas movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell, Spirited, and shares her thoughts. Emma and Alaina pitch Dash & Lily to Josie, who has never seen the festive Christmas miniseries. The three then get into a short conversation about Hallmark holiday movies, plus answer the question: “If you could be anyone from any holiday movie, who would you be?” Emma exposes herself for never having seen The Holiday, and Alaina discusses the struggles of finding good new Christmas movies for kids. The conversation wraps up with a discussion of which holiday movies we think have the best lessons and morals to their stories.
